Jim Gosewehr, M.D.Like all of my partners, my training began with a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. This provided a foundation of medical training that emphasized patient autonomy and control, a philosophy all the more important in the case of someone facing cancer. Learning one has cancer can be a frightening experience and I believe that through thorough explanations and consideration of all options we can guide our patients through an extremely difficult time, sometimes even with a little laughter along the way. I enjoy all activities outside, especially if it involves water, frozen or otherwise…especially if it involves my family. Dr. Gosewehr sees patients at our St. Vincent location. |

Lisa McCluskey, M.D.I aspire to offer a compassionate, individualized approach to each woman I see. By answering questions and sharing information, I help each woman gain a better understanding of her condition. Options for evaluation and treatment are discussed. As a gynecologic oncologist, I offer comprehensive care with state-of-the-art techniques, which may include surgery, chemotherapy or other treatment approaches. I support participation in research studies when applicable. As a surgeon, I believe in an individualized approach in surgery as well. Whenever possible, a minimally invasive approach (laparoscopy) offers fewer complications and a quicker recovery without sacrificing the effectiveness of the cancer treatment. I am excited about the advances in robotic surgery as it offers more women the option of laparoscopic surgery. I continue to be inspired by the strength of each woman throughout the spectrum of the disease process. I enjoy developing long-lasting relationships with the women I am privileged to take care of. My personal interests include spending time with my husband, two sons and extended family, traveling, swimming, playing games and “family movie night”. Colleen McCormick, M.D.Dr. Colleen McCormick joins our expert team of gynecologic oncologists after completing her extensive training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and University School of Medicine. Colleen is a dedicated physician who understands the complex journey that women with cancer face. She feels honored to be a part of their healing process and views her ability to care for patients as a privilege instead of a job. Colleen's experience with the da Vinci robotic system for minimally invasive surgery complements the Northwest Cancer Specialists group of gynecologic oncologists the first in the Portland-Vancouver region to utilize this revolutionary technology. In her down time, Colleen enjoys exploring her new hometown, cooking, quilting and rooting for the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. Dr. McCormick sees patients at our Rose Quarter Cancer Center and Vancouver Cancer Center locations. |

R. Scott Rushing, M.D.Every patient with a diagnosis of cancer deserves the hope of winning her fight as well as a realistic and honest understanding of what lies ahead. I try to offer both to the patients in whose care I am entrusted. I strive to care for and treat patients as I would a dear friend or a family member. Individualization of all aspects of care is valued in my practice. I am proud of the fact that my partners and I are among the first in the Northwest to perform robotic-assisted minimally invasive gynecologic cancer procedures. It has been astounding to see women benefit from this technology with faster recovery, less pain, shorter hospital stay, improved cosmesis, and ability to begin any further cancer treatment quicker. I am passionate about my profession and feel privileged to be part of the cancer team that gives extended life to my patients and their families. My education and training has taken our family to Utah, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky and now to the great Northwest. We have chosen the Portland/Vancouver area to be where we settle down and raise our 5 children. Outside of work, my life revolves around my family and church. I enjoy golf and running when I can squeeze them in my schedule! Dr. Rushing sees patients at our Vancouver Cancer Center. |

Paul Tseng, M.D.I strive to provide the most complete care for every patient, from physiological to educational to emotional. I believe it’s important to guide each patient through the process—helping them to understand what is happening to their body, what treatment options are available and how their life is likely to be affected. I apply my knowledge of gynecologic oncology to cultivate a way of relating with my patients that is honest, open and caring. I believe that this approach empowers women to make the choice that is best for them and their families. The importance of giving women options is one of the reasons why I am dedicated to learning and evaluating new techniques, and furthering clinical research trials for gynecological cancers. In 1991, I was the first gynecological oncologist in Oregon to offer minimally invasive surgery (MIS) to women with cancer of the reproductive system. Now in 2008 my colleagues and I are the first to offer MIS using the da Vinci® robotic surgical system. As the founding member of our team of specialists, I have seen much growth in the last 19 years and am proud that we’ve become the largest gynecological oncology practice in Oregon and Southwest Washington. In addition to seeing my patients, I am dedicated to providing care for underprivileged women through my work at the Providence Gyn Clinic and via my mission work abroad. I also get great satisfaction from teaching and working with OHSU medical students and OB/GYN residents. In my spare time I enjoy sharing activities with my wife and three children, and engaging in church and community activities. I stay active with bicycling and snowboarding. William Winter III, M.D.I consider the provision of care for women with gynecologic cancers a privilege more than a career. Gynecologic oncology is a unique field of cancer care, in that we assume care of our patients from the onset to the conclusion of their disease process. Our practice includes surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, close collaboration with radiation oncology and cancer surveillance/screening. Surgery is one of the cornerstones of our practice. In the recent past, open surgical staging procedures, requiring several days of inpatient recovery and up to two months of outpatient recovery, were considered the standard of care for women with operable/resectable early-stage gynecologic cancers. Minimally invasive surgery (MIS; e.g., laparoscopy) is playing an increasing role in the surgical care of these patients. With the most recent advent of robotic-assisted laparoscopy, gynecologic oncologists are able to perform more complex and extensive procedures via MIS. When compared to traditional open surgeries, patients undergoing MIS typically return home as soon as the day after surgery, return earlier to their normal pre-surgical level of activity/job, and begin any additional therapy (e.g., chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy) earlier. In addition, robotic-assisted laparoscopy has played an important role in allowing successful completion of MIS in obese patients at high risk for surgical/wound complications with open surgery. It is my pleasure to offer this option when appropriate. I will treat women with gynecologic cancers with the highest quality medical/surgical care available. I could not think of offering anything less than that. Dr. Winter sees patients at our Rose Quarter and St. Vincent locations. |
